BEHEMOTH Bringing Dangerous, Extreme Metal Music To The Masses

Vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski of the Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH spoke to IndyStar.com about his band's participating in this year's Ozzfest.

"I think it's a great idea," he said of the free access. "It's a historical event, man. Just think of any other festival like that. The kids can just get there and enjoy all these bands."

"We're one of the very few bands that are actually fortunate enough to have this opportunity to bring this kind of music — to bring dangerous, extreme metal music — to the masses," Darski said.

Asked about the band's approach during the songwriting sessions for its latest effort, "The Apostasy", which was released last month on Century Media Records, Darski said, "The main intention is that we wanted to stick to BEHEMOTH's trademark, which is . . . insanely, inhumanly brutal, extreme music. But, at the same time, I want people to realize that in this kind of music, in the extreme metal genre, you can be actually a good instrumentalist. I just wanted to make sure that 'The Apostasy' was still a very musical kind of record."
